The iconic Canadian photographer Douglas Kirkland has spent six decades photographing the most famous faces of the era.
The one who really made him famous was the wonderful Marilyn Monroe, who asked Kirkland to photograph her wearing only a white silk sheet in bed in 1961.

Marilyn’s death was a shock for him, yet he was just at the beginning of his career: when he was still a 20-year-old he had the opportunity to spend three weeks with Coco Chanel (and he never saw her remove her hat!)
Coco was followed by a long list of other immortal icons, like Sophia Loren, Grace Jones, Audrey Hepburn, and Brigitte Bardot.
These amazing photographs will be shown in the retrospective exhibition “Douglas Kirkland,” which is now on view at the Palos Verdes Art Center in California, through April 21, 2019.
