Italian film icon Sophia Loren will play a wheelchair-bound woman, a Holocaust survivor who starts a friendship with 12 year-old Senegalese immigrant boy, in her first movie role in 10 years, directed by her son Edoardo Ponti.

The film is an adaptation of Romain Gary’s novel La vie devant soi, which was previously adapted for the big screen in 1978, with Simone Signoret in the main role.

The shootings of the movie – titled The Life Ahead – are starting in Bari, Italy.
