Courtney Love is one of the greatest 90s icons and one of the main figures of the grunge period.
Known for her marriage to Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, she was the lead vocalist of the alternative rock band Hole, which she formed in 1989. In 2020, NME named her “one of the most influential singers in alternative culture of the last 30 years.”
Her relationship with Cobain was far from idyllic.
“Courtney and Kurt are the nineties, much more talented version of Sid and Nancy,” a record executive once noted. “[Courtney’s] going to be famous and [Kurt] already is, but unless something happens, they’re going to self-destruct. I know they’re both going to be big stars. I just don’t want to be a part of it.”
The two got married just months after they started dating.

In January 2020, she was honored with the Icon Award at the NME Awards, deemed by the publication as “one of the most influential singers in alternative culture of the last 30 years.”
In March 2021 she had been hospitalized with acute anemia in August 2020, which left her weighing 97 pounds (44 kg) and nearly killed her. In June 2021, Love revealed the project Bruises of Roses, a new video series featuring her performing cover versions of her favorite songs.
